About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role fosters interactive development of an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The position requires frequent walking and standing; bending, stooping, and kneeling; and handling merchandise and equipment. The employee must frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 55 pounds, and may occasionally climb a step ladder to heights of six feet. Regular use of the employee’s own vehicle is required for meetings, trips to other Dollar General stores, and deposits. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise and may involve occasional exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions needed to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations where limited standardization exists.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, and storing merchandise; presenting merchandise according to established practices and store manager direction; and properly using fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies, including those in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are safely deposited in the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities or issues involving sales, labor, profitability, inventory turn, expenses, shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
