About The Position

Saint Luke’s is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for its system float pool. The position floats between metro hospital locations in Lee’s Summit, Overland Park, North Kansas City, and the Plaza areas. Team members rotate through various stations to learn all aspects of sterile processing, in a fast-paced environment focused on patient safety, continuous learning, and professional development. Schedules are written 8–10 weeks in advance and may be flexible based on needs. This is a day position with 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. The technician processes, sterilizes, and documents the sterility of patient care supplies, instruments, and equipment in accordance with AORN Standards of Practice. The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, adherence to established processes, and openness to learning new skills and adapting to new technology and procedures.

Requirements

Less than 1 year of applicable experience.
Confidence in sterile processing abilities and strong communication skills.
Attention to detail and a process-driven approach.
Commitment to putting patients first and following processes exactly.
Willingness to adapt to new technology and procedures and learn new skills.

Responsibilities

Process, sterilize, and document the sterility of patient care supplies, instruments, and equipment in accordance with AORN Standards of Practice.
Prepare and assemble instrument sets and surgery trays using count sheets.
Verify the proper function and integrity of instruments.
Label instruments correctly and return them to their proper location.
Execute instrumentation work with a focus on quality, patient safety, and department efficiency.
Rotate through various sterile processing stations to learn all aspects of the work.
Follow applicable standards related to infection control, including AAMI, Joint Commission, and APIC standards.
