This position is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. The goal is to ensure their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. The role involves collecting used and contaminated equipment, manually cleaning supplies, operating and maintaining decontamination and sterilization equipment, preparing and packing supplies, and meticulously examining items to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized. The technician will also test and report any issues with sterilization equipment, sterilize, prepare, wrap, and organize equipment into instrument trays, and prepare and deliver necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries and other medical procedures. Additionally, the role includes maintaining records of sterilization procedures, equipment maintenance, and supplies, as well as controlling inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates. This work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
