Sterile Processing Technician - Evenings
About The Position
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. The role ensures equipment is functional and sterile to help prevent infection, while following applicable regulatory guidelines and protocols. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The position is full-time on the evening shift, scheduled 2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., for 40 hours per week. Training is provided to obtain the required certification. A $3,000 signing bonus is available if eligible; compensation for certified candidates is based on experience. The technician is accountable for satisfying job-specific obligations and following organizational policies and procedures. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Obtain CRCST certification within 18 months of hire, or meet state grandfathering guidelines. Certification must be through HSPA or CBSPD.
- Skills in infection control, mathematics, multitasking, and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Collect used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
- Manually clean supplies to remove contaminants and waste matter, and operate and maintain decontamination equipment.
- Prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
- Monitor and operate sterilization equipment.
- Serve as a preceptor to new employees.
- Inspect supplies carefully to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Test sterilization equipment and report issues or problems.
- Sterilize, prepare, wrap, and organize equipment into instrument trays for medical procedures.
- Prepare and deliver equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
- Maintain records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
- Control inventory, reorder supplies, and check expiration dates.
