This position assists with the daily supervision and management activities related to the Sterile Processing department. The role is responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, including Joint Commission and Department of Health. Key duties include the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment, following established infection control practices. The lead technician also directs the work of others in the absence of management personnel and assists with staffing, planning, and management of operational functions. This role involves altering routines to adjust to emergent situations, instructing others in specialized technical skills, and working with supervisors to develop quality monitors, in-service programs, and orientation programs. Additionally, the lead assists with maintaining instrument set listings and diagrams, interviewing and replacing employees, and investigating operational problems or complaints. The technician performs all duties of a Sterile Processing Technician, including operating decontamination and sterilization equipment, disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, and assembling instrument sets, and dispensing requested products. The work environment is typically clinical, and the employee is accountable for job-specific obligations and organizational policies.
