The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures the proper functionality and sterility of these items to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. The position involves collecting used and contaminated equipment, manually cleaning supplies, operating and maintaining decontamination and sterilization equipment, and meticulously examining supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized. Additionally, the technician will prepare and deliver necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries and other medical procedures, maintain records of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance, and manage inventory by reordering supplies and checking expiration dates. This work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
