About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for assembling and sterilizing all instruments, instrument trays, utensils, and linen packs. This role also performs distribution functions related to case carts and sterile instrumentation. The position requires the ability to perform all Sterile Processing functions, including rotating weekend and on-call duties. A strict dress code, including surgical scrubs, is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform all Sterile Processing functions.
  • Must be able to perform decontamination functions of removal of gross debris, an inspection of lumens, processing of laparoscopic equipment/ instruments, and loading of appropriate instruments and equipment per manufacturers recommendations and departmental and regulatory standards with efficiency.
  • Must be able to document all work performed utilizing instrument tracking software SPM.
  • Must be able to perform quality control checks.
  • Must be able to inspect and assemble all equipment, instruments, scopes, and instrument sets following product recipe to verify items are functional, free of debris, and required per instrument recipe.
  • Must be able to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Must be able to perform (HLD) High-level disinfection with 100% accuracy.
  • Must be able to operate sterilizers and washers efficiently, loads, and unloads sterilizer carts. Must be able to perform the quality assurance tasks necessary for the daily operation of sterilization equipment.
  • Must be able to run the daily OR schedules to anticipate needs and completion of case carts for supplies and instruments.
  • Must be able to process all issues and credits from requisitions/requests from other departments timely and effectively for proper inventory management of supplies.
  • Must be able to utilize patient-specific pick lists to accurately gather surgical instruments and disposable supplies requested by the attending surgeon or another Peri-Operative representative.
  • Must be able to document case cart build process in SPM, continuously updating the record as items are fulfilled to maintain the integrity of the needs list.
  • Must be able to perform scheduled and cyclic physical inventory of supplies and instruments within the department.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to frequently lift to 35 lbs. stoop, bend, pull, and place and retrieve material.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months minimum working in a sterile processing or operating room environment.
  • Provisional/ full CRCST Certification or the ability to achieve CRCST Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs decontamination functions including removal of gross debris, inspection of lumens, processing of laparoscopic equipment/instruments, and loading of appropriate instruments and equipment per manufacturers recommendations and departmental and regulatory standards with efficiency.
  • Documents all work performed utilizing instrument tracking software SPM.
  • Performs quality control checks.
  • Inspects and assembles all equipment, instruments, scopes, and instrument sets following product recipe to verify items are functional, free of debris, and required per instrument recipe.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area, ensuring workspace is functional for peer use upon work completion or as needed.
  • Performs (HLD) High-level disinfection with 100% accuracy.
  • Operates sterilizers and washers efficiently, loads, and unloads sterilizer carts. Performs the quality assurance tasks necessary for the daily operation of sterilization equipment.
  • Runs the daily OR schedules to anticipate needs and completion of case carts for supplies and instruments. Communicates any missing picklist items that are not available for 100% case cart completion to the charge person/supervisor for proper follow-up.
  • Processes all issues and credits from requisitions/requests from other departments timely and effectively for proper inventory management of supplies. Uses established guidelines for recording and proper processing and checking of loaner equipment.
  • Utilizes patient-specific pick lists to accurately gather surgical instruments and disposable supplies requested by the attending surgeon or another Peri-Operative representative.
  • Documents case cart build process in SPM, continuously updating the record as items are fulfilled to maintain the integrity of the needs list.
  • Performs scheduled and cyclic physical inventory of supplies and instruments within the department.
