About The Position

The Sterile Processing Clerk, also referred to as an Instrument Processing Technician, maintains instruments and equipment in optimal condition and prepares instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical patients. The position works under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse and supports the instrument processing area, including cleaning, disinfecting, wrapping, and sterilizing instruments and equipment. It also performs crossover duties such as purchasing supplies and managing inventory in accordance with facility policy and management guidance.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED.
Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies, including industry-standardized principles and practices.
Successful completion of a BCLS course within 90 days of employment, or documentation of current BCLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in instrument processing.
Prior experience as a surgical technologist or procedure technologist.
Certification in instrument processing.

Responsibilities

Work as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
Apply knowledge of sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and the maintenance and care of instruments and equipment.
Follow standards and practices for sterile technique.
Clean and/or disinfect instruments and equipment after use and return them to the proper area, in the appropriate sequence, for storage or processing.
Determine the sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
Clean, wrap, sterilize, and disinfect instruments and equipment, and maintain the functions of the instrument processing area or department.
Perform crossover duties in other areas, including purchasing supplies and managing inventory according to facility policy and management guidance.
