About The Position

The Sterile Processing Clerk, also referred to as an Instrument Processing Technician, maintains instruments and equipment in optimal condition and prepares instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical patients. The role functions under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse and maintains the functions of the instrument processing area or department. It may also include crossover duties such as purchasing supplies and managing inventory in designated areas in accordance with facility policy and management guidance.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies, including industry-standard principles and practices.
Successful completion of a BCLS course within 90 days of employment, or documentation of current BCLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in instrument processing.
Prior experience as a surgical technologist or procedure technologist.
Certification in instrument processing.

Responsibilities

Maintain instruments and equipment in optimal condition and prepare instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical patients.
Perform Instrument Processing Technician duties under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
Clean and/or disinfect instruments and equipment after use and return them to the proper area and sequence for storage or processing.
Differentiate the sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
Clean, wrap, sterilize, and disinfect instruments and equipment, and maintain the functions of the instrument processing area or department.
Perform crossover duties in other areas, such as purchasing supplies and managing inventory according to facility policy and management guidance.
