About The Position

The Sterile Processing Clerk, also referred to as an Instrument Processing Technician, maintains instruments and equipment in optimal condition and prepares instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for surgical patients. The role works under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse and maintains the functions of the instrument processing area or department. It also includes crossover duties in other areas, such as purchasing supplies and managing inventory according to facility policy and management guidance.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies, including industry-standard principles and practices.
Successful completion of a BCLS course within 90 days of employment, or documentation of current BCLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in instrument processing.
Prior experience as a surgical technologist or procedure technologist.
Certification in instrument processing.

Responsibilities

Work as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
Use knowledge of sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and the maintenance and care of instruments and equipment.
Follow standards and practices for sterile technique.
Clean and/or disinfect instruments and equipment after use, then return them in the appropriate sequence to the proper area for storage or processing.
Select the sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
Clean, wrap, sterilize, and disinfect instruments and equipment, and maintain the instrument processing area or department.
Perform crossover duties such as purchasing supplies and managing inventory in designated areas according to facility policy and management guidance.
