The Virginia Department of Health is hiring a State Office of Rural Health Director to manage and direct implementation of the State Office of Rural Health (SORH) activities in Virginia. Under the supervision of the Office of Health Equity Director, the incumbent will lead, manage, and oversee SORH programs and VDH rural health initiatives intended to improve health outcomes in rural Virginia. The role is supported solely by federal grant funds and a required general fund match. Continued employment depends on funding availability; the current grant period is four years and eight months, ending June 30, 2031, with funding reviewed annually when supported by non-general funds and periodically thereafter. The Director will lead the VDH team providing technical assistance to rural stakeholders working to reduce health disparities in rural communities. The role directly supervises a SORH Manager and indirectly supervises staff responsible for the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (Flex) and Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP) programs and SORH external communications. The Director also works with the Virginia Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Resources on multiagency rural health strategies and initiatives, leads cross-functional teams, and represents VDH in developing and maintaining public and private partnerships. The position is designated as requiring annual Statement of Economic Interest disclosures, beginning within 30 days of the start date, and initial Conflict of Interest training within 30 days, with annual training thereafter. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory background and other required checks.
