About The Position

St. Francis Center (SFC), an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, was established in June 1983. SFC is a refuge for people who are experiencing homelessness in the metro Denver area. Our programs and services are tailored toward adults and focus on daytime shelter, non-congregate shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing, employment, and outreach. At SFC, “guests” can work with a variety of specialists, depending on their individual needs, which is often the first step toward transformation and ultimately self-sufficiency. We are currently looking for a Temporary Starbucks Outreach Worker. This is a temporary Full-Time, non-exempt position eligible for an excellent benefit package as outlined below. POSITION OVERVIEW Starbucks Corporation’s Global Social Impact Team, in partnership with St. Francis Center have worked over the past several years to make a tangible impact in the Denver community through an innovative partnership. This position will work as part of this closely engaged team to provide housing-focused outreach services to community members experiencing homelessness within and near select Starbucks stores.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or graduate education in human services, social work, psychology, international relations, or other related field preferred or equivalent, related professional experience.
  • 2+ years of street outreach and/or case management experience, preferably with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Valid Driver’s License and willingness/ability to drive as part of work duties.
  • Strong team player with good collaborative and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict, mitigate/respond to stressful situations, and engage traumatic stories.
  • Understanding of and experience with addressing the impact of trauma, chronic medical conditions, behavioral health challenges, and physical disabilities.
  • Ability to understand and maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
  • Exudes professionalism and has the ability to listen with care, treat community members and collaborative partners with respect and dignity, and respond to each individual’s unique needs.
  • Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages and genders.
  • Computer skills and technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (TEAMS, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and in documentation applications (i.e., HMIS, Salesforce)
  • Knowledge in Trauma Informed Practices, de-escalation, Mental Health First Aid, and willing to maintain professional training standards in the above requirements and qualification

Responsibilities

  • Engage and develop rapport with our unsheltered community members near participating Starbucks stores, by inviting them into housing-focused services and using trauma-informed practices, motivational interviewing, and person-centered methods.
  • Participate in shared activities and responsibilities with the greater SFC Outreach team and agency.
  • Conduct strengths-based, intensive case management to individuals who are seeking permanent housing while providing problem-solving for potential barriers.
  • Helping community members acquire transportation, and, as necessary, accompany guests to appointments for medical, behavioral health, benefits, housing, and/or other necessary services.
  • Record timely and thorough documentation of all engagement efforts and services provided.
  • This position may require extensive walking/covering distances, carrying supplies for outreach activities, and working outdoors in locations with varying terrain across Denver in all weather conditions.
  • The person selected for this position must be able to fulfill the requirements and work locations of the position.
  • This position’s scope and function are subject to change and include other duties as assigned.
