About The Position

The Stage Director is the artistic leader of the production, responsible for guiding the creative team and actors to create a cohesive and engaging theatrical experience for the audience. This role involves interpreting the script, casting actors, leading rehearsals, collaborating with designers, coordinating technical elements, ensuring cohesion, managing conflicts, and maintaining the budget.

Responsibilities

Interpreting the Script: Analyze the text, identify themes, and develop a cohesive artistic vision for the production.
Casting: Conduct auditions and select actors to fill the various roles in the play.
Rehearsals: Lead rehearsals, providing guidance and direction to actors, helping them develop their characters and performances. This includes giving notes to cast and crew.
Collaborating with Designers: Work closely with designers (set, costume, lighting, sound, prop) to ensure that all design elements align with the vision and enhance the overall production.
Coordinating Technical Elements: Collaborate with the technical director, stage manager, and crew to integrate stagecraft, lighting, sound, and other technical aspects of the production.
Ensuring Cohesion: Oversee all aspects of the production, ensuring that all creative elements work together to create a unified and compelling performance.
Managing Conflicts and Problems: Resolve conflicts, address problems that arise during rehearsals, and make adjustments to the production as needed.
Maintaining the Budget: Be involved in managing the budget for the production.
General Schedule Commitment Needs: Attend/run/prepare materials for auditions and callbacks; Plan, attend & run blocking and technical rehearsals; Attend all nights of production
