About The Position

The Nurse Staffing Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal staffing levels and smooth operational flow within our inpatient rehabilitation hospital. This role involves proactive scheduling, real-time staffing adjustments, and effective communication with nursing units to maintain safe and effective patient care.

Requirements

  • Current, unencumbered license to practice vocational nursing in the state where currently practicing.
  • Current BLS via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • Experience with staffing in an inpatient rehabilitation hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with patient classification/acuity systems.
  • Organizes and prioritizes tasks and projects, accurately completing job responsibilities within the specified time constraints.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Speaks and communicates English effectively in verbal and written format; writes legibly.
  • Reading and comprehension at the level necessary to perform job duties appropriately.
  • Works cooperatively with co-workers and other hospital employees
  • Functions proficiently in a Microsoft Windows environment (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Current ACLS certification via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly nursing schedules, ensuring alignment with patient census, acuity, and established staffing ratios.
  • Proactively anticipate staffing needs, coordinate with internal staff, and utilize agency or per diem resources as needed.
  • Respond promptly to call-ins, unexpected absences, and fluctuations in patient census to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
  • Track and approve time off requests (vacation, sick leave, etc.), ensuring compliance with policies and minimizing scheduling conflicts.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing units to identify staffing needs, discuss patient acuity levels, and address emerging concerns.
  • Build strong relationships with nursing agency representatives to streamline the utilization of external resources.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with nursing staff regarding schedule changes, open shifts, and mandatory overtime requirements.
  • Utilize staffing software to input schedules, track attendance, and manage personnel data with accuracy.
  • Generate and analyze staffing metrics (e.g., overtime usage, agency utilization, vacancy rates) to identify trends and support decision-making.
  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Nursing or Nursing Supervisor on staffing status and relevant trends.
