Staff Solutions Engineer - FDSE Public Sector - Splunk (Remote)
About The Position
Cisco is seeking an accomplished, hands-on Forward Deployed Solutions Engineer (FDSE) with AI expertise and pre-sales and/or post-sales experience. The role works directly with strategic U.S.-based defense and intelligence customers to advance AI transformation and deliver customer mission outcomes. The FDSE team co-develops, innovates, and integrates solutions using Cisco AI infrastructure and the Splunk Data Platform, prototyping solutions for potential production environments in complex, heterogeneous enterprise settings. As an embedded engineer, the role focuses on accelerating customer business outcomes and time to value, influencing technical decision-makers, and delivering tangible proof that supports customer retention and growth. The engineer collaborates with Cisco product engineering to share field insights and help evolve the AI-integrated portfolio, while mentoring and working with other FDSEs in a collaborative, agile environment. The role can be performed anywhere in the United States and requires U.S. citizenship. A Top Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required. Travel within the assigned territory is expected as needed for business and customer engagements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical engineering experience.
- At least 9 years of professional pre-sales and post-sales experience working directly with customers on distributed software and system architecture deployments.
- At least 3 years of experience in generative and agentic AI, machine learning platforms, Kubernetes, event-driven architectures across cloud-native and hybrid platforms, and large-scale enterprise data architectures.
- Experience using AI to realize customer business outcomes with fast time to value.
- Top Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned territory for business and customer engagements.
Nice To Haves
- At least 7 years leading technical customer-facing engagements involving ambiguous, high-impact enterprise projects.
- At least 5 years of Cisco and Splunk experience, or equivalent experience with a top competitor.
- Ability to explain how AI and automation can solve complex business problems and achieve rapid ROI.
- Strong narrative skills and ability to connect technical AI implementation with executive-level business requirements.
- AI, data science, and enterprise certifications and/or education.

- Influence technical decision-makers through customer-embedded engineering work.
- Collaborate with Cisco product engineering teams and provide field-level insights to help evolve Cisco’s AI-integrated portfolio.
- Mentor and collaborate with Forward Deployed Solutions Engineers.
