About The Position

Join Walmart as a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role drives the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles to enhance system resilience and agility. About the team: At Walmart Global Tech, the team develops highly scalable and reliable backend platforms powering the world’s largest retail marketplace. They handle massive volumes of real-time and batch data across the Walmart ecosystem. The team emphasizes cloud-native architecture, continuous development, and robust platform design to ensure resilience and agility. Members collaborate closely to deliver quality software solutions, conduct design reviews, and drive innovation. They leverage expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, and Apache Spark to build distributed systems at scale, fostering technical excellence and data-driven decision-making to support Walmart’s evolving business needs.

Requirements

Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and platform development to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and debugging to uphold quality and alignment with architectural standards.
Skilled in data-driven decision making and problem solving to optimize engineering processes and outcomes.
Demonstrated capability in mentoring and technical leadership to foster team growth and collaboration.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area
Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

Design and build highly scalable backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot
Architect and implement real-time event-driven systems using Apache Kafka
Develop and optimize large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines using Apache Spark
Drive architecture decisions around scalability, resiliency, observability, and cost efficiency
Lead system design reviews and define engineering best practices for distributed systems
Work closely with Product, Data Science, Platform, and Infrastructure teams to deliver business impact
Optimize system performance through partitioning strategies, caching, async processing, and concurrency tuning
Mentor engineers and act as a technical multiplier across multiple teams
Participate in production incident reviews and drive long-term platform reliability improvements
