About The Position

The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer will lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role drives the full software lifecycle, ensuring alignment with architectural best practices and business objectives. The engineer will collaborate across teams to define technical requirements, mentor peers, and promote engineering excellence through design reviews and continuous improvement. Emphasizing cloud-native principles and data-driven decision-making, this position supports innovation, operational efficiency, and the successful execution of complex technical projects within a dynamic environment. Walmart’s Associate Listening and Relations team is a full-stack Generative AI group within the People function, focused on empowering over 2.2 million associates worldwide through AI-driven solutions that enhance productivity and well-being. The team develops advanced systems including RAG-based knowledge Q&A tools, agentic HR automation interfaces, and text-to-SQL analytics to simplify information access and actions. They seek a Senior Software Engineer to enhance observability, automation, and scalability across these platforms, utilizing expertise in Python, cloud technologies, distributed systems, and MLOps to deliver robust, personalized, and scalable experiences aligned with Walmart’s evolving workforce needs.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Experience with AI/ML integration, including building intelligent automation features and applying AI best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Skilled in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions to promote technical excellence and sustainability.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
  • Effective collaboration and communication across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and agentic AI for intelligent automation.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
