About The Position

Courtyard is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join its Payments team. The role works across the stack on how money moves through Courtyard on web and mobile, including payment features and the risk and fraud systems that determine which payments go through. The engineer will help Courtyard expand into new markets and payment methods. The role involves building payment features from back-end services and APIs through customer-facing checkout screens, contributing to payment-method selection, 3D Secure routing, error and decline handling, and checkout conversion. It also covers real-time fraud scoring, risk rules, device signals, identity checks, disputes and chargebacks, payment-flow reliability, and technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, and mentoring.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills, with production experience in TypeScript and React; Next.js and mobile experience are preferred.
  • Back-end experience designing APIs and services, working with relational databases, and operating systems in the cloud.
  • Experience integrating payment processors and working with payment lifecycles, webhooks, refunds, and disputes.
  • Experience building payment UIs with hosted fields and tokenization to keep card data out of application code in PCI-compliant flows.
  • Experience with fraud prevention, such as risk rules, scoring, 3D Secure, device signals, or identity checks.
  • Comfort using SQL to measure fraud and conversion and monitor rollouts.
