About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring high-quality system design. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex problems into actionable solutions. Emphasis is placed on innovation, continuous improvement, and maintaining engineering excellence to support business objectives and enhance developer productivity. The team tackles complex business and technical challenges within Growth Tech by leveraging advanced AI coding agents across planning, design, implementation, testing, and operations. They set standards for scalable, reliable, and secure production systems at the intersection of software engineering, data, and AI. Focused on delivering valuable insights to suppliers and merchants, the team builds platforms for intelligent automation, including agent orchestration and customer-facing AI solutions. Emphasizing rapid iteration and adaptive systems that learn from usage, the team fosters collaboration and continuous improvement to drive innovation in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong software development skills with experience in full lifecycle ownership, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, React with a focus on AI/ML integration and intelligent automation.
  • Experience conducting system and design reviews to ensure quality, and alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Ability to mentor and lead engineers, fostering technical growth and promoting engineering excellence.
  • Skilled in API design, software prototyping, debugging, and problem solving to deliver robust platform solutions.
  • Data-driven decision-making capabilities to define metrics, optimize processes, and improve engineering outcomes.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven React native applications and integrate ML components to support automation and multi-step reasoning.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and track success metrics.
