About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, applying cloud-native architecture principles to enhance system resilience and agility. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, integrating AI/ML solutions, and ensuring technical excellence through rigorous design reviews and continuous improvement. You will mentor engineering teams, collaborate across functions, and translate complex user needs into actionable technical solutions. Your expertise will support innovation, operational efficiency, and the achievement of strategic business objectives within a dynamic and evolving technology environment. The CICD Engineering team within Walmart's Developer Experience & Gen AI organization supports over 25,000 engineers by managing critical platforms at scale. The team operates Walmart’s on-premise GitHub instance and leads its migration to GitHub Cloud. It oversees ArgoCD for GitOps delivery and orchestrates CI/CD workflows through Concord. Maintaining SonarQube ensures enterprise-wide code quality. Positioned at the intersection of platform engineering and developer experience, the team drives reliability, performance, and innovation across all engineering pipelines and deployments, enhancing the software development lifecycle throughout Walmart.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture — microservices, containers, automation, and SRE practices (SLI/SLOs, error budgets, on-call) — for scalable, reliable platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in Java with hands-on experience in Python, TypeScript, Go, Groovy etc — that power GitHub integrations and APIs/webhooks/OIDC, ArgoCD workflows (Helm, Kustomize, YAML), SonarQube code analysis and Concord pipeline automation.
  • Proven experience across the full SDLC; coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, maintenance.
  • Ability to conduct system design reviews and apply software design patterns to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Data-driven problem-solver with strong collaboration and mentorship skills to continuously elevate team capability, influencing architectural decisions.
  • Effective collaboration and communication across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Design and deliver automation solutions to eliminate recurring support, reduce developer friction, and drive measurable impact.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate components to support automation and multi-step reasoning.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
