About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle with a focus on cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience delivering production-grade systems at scale.
  • Strong backend and full-stack engineering experience in Python, Java, or TypeScript, etc, building modular, maintainable, and well-documented solutions at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI and LLMs — leveraging them to boost personal and team development efficiency.
  • Proven debugging and code quality discipline — rigorous code review practices, testing standards, and documentation-driven development habits.
  • Data-driven problem-solving ability — translating ambiguous business needs into precise, actionable technical requirements.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder fluency — able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Drive cross-functional delivery — translate business requirements into technical solutions, manage stakeholder communication, and ship on time.
  • Lead design and architecture reviews — partner with tech leads and product teams during discovery to define high-level designs aligned to platform standards.
  • Build AI-powered applications — integrate ML components and automation to solve complex problems and advance platform intelligence.
  • Prototype to de-risk — run proof-of-concepts, validate ideas early, and drive cross-functional alignment before full-scale execution.
  • Mentor and grow the team — raise technical standards, champion best practices
  • Improve continuously — sharpen processes, tools, and product quality through innovation, documentation, and structured feedback.
