About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions, promote continuous improvement, and uphold high standards of quality and integrity. This position requires strong technical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to advancing engineering productivity and innovation. The People Technology team at Walmart develops and enhances technology solutions impacting millions of associates globally. The Apps, Analytics, and AI group delivers scalable platforms for AI Agents, enterprise insights, and application journeys, including the Me@ platform, Walmart’s flagship associate experience app. This team advances the People Data Platform, providing secure, governed data foundations for analytics, AI, and automation. By integrating modern data architecture, AI/ML, and platform engineering, the team creates intelligent, scalable solutions that improve associate experiences and support operational excellence across the organization.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to ensure maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, React Native, Java, for AI/ML integration and platform development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including CI/CD deployment, observability, and maintenance.
  • Skilled in DevOps engineering practices to enhance infrastructure and tooling for improved engineering productivity.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills to define metrics, optimize processes, and deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities and experience conducting design reviews to ensure alignment with architectural standards.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area

Responsibilities

  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
  • Continuously improve processes, tools, and products through innovation and feedback integration.
