Staff Software Engineer, Visits

Hinge Health•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Hinge Health uses software, including AI, to deliver care for joint and muscle health, as well as pelvic health, migraine, and digestive health. The Visits team owns scheduling across Hinge Health and the visit experience in the member app and care-team tools, including HingeSelect and visits across its health programs. The Staff Software Engineer will provide technical leadership for the Visits experience, setting architecture and personally delivering complex engineering work as visit volume grows. The role may focus on mobile, web, or backend services. The engineer will work with product, design, clinical, and operations partners to shape and deliver a multi-quarter roadmap; extend the scheduling platform; establish a trusted structured record of each visit; and make it easier to bring additional specialties onto the platform. The position also owns reliability, security, and privacy for the team's services, establishes engineering standards, coaches senior engineers, and contributes to hiring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 8 years of non-internship, full-time professional software engineering experience.
  • Professional experience with at least one of TypeScript, Go, React Native, or React.
  • Experience serving as technical lead for a project spanning multiple engineers or teams, from technical design through launch, in close collaboration with product and design partners.
  • Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day engineering work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams in a 0-to-1 or rapid-growth environment.
  • Experience shipping production product features powered by LLMs or agentic workflows.
  • Experience building scheduling, booking, or marketplace systems at scale.
  • Experience with clinical data and healthcare integrations, such as FHIR or HL7 data, EHRs, claims, labs, or pharmacies.
  • Deep familiarity with the core stack: React Native, React, TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, GraphQL, Go, gRPC, Postgres, Temporal, Kafka, Docker, and AWS.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance technology, or other high-compliance industries, including HIPAA or SOC 2.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product, design, clinical, and operations leaders to shape a multi-quarter roadmap and lead cross-team initiatives from ambiguity through launch.
  • Coordinate parallel workstreams, keep delivery predictable, and personally ship the most technically challenging components.
  • Own the architecture of the scheduling platform as it supports more specialties, providers, higher volume, and real-time booking with external provider networks.
  • Design encounters as a trusted, structured record of what happened during visits, what they addressed, and what comes next, serving the member app, care-team tools, scheduling, programs, billing, and AI experiences.
  • Design the visit platform so new specialties can be added primarily through configuration rather than rebuilding, and own contracts between Visits and related teams and systems.
  • Own service reliability, prevent classes of failures, lead migrations away from third-party systems, and maintain high standards for health-data security and privacy.
  • Write critical design documents, lead design reviews, and establish engineering patterns adopted by other teams.
  • Incorporate AI into software development practices, coach senior engineers into technical leadership roles, and help raise the hiring bar.
