Senior Software Engineer (Visits)

Hinge Health•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Hinge Health uses software, including AI, to deliver care for joint and muscle health and has expanded into pelvic health, migraine, and digestive health. It partners with employers and health plans to provide care at scale, improve members’ quality of life, and reduce healthcare costs. The Visits team owns scheduling across Hinge Health, the visit experience in the member app, and the tools used by the care team. This includes HingeSelect, a network of specialists, in-person providers, and surgeons, as well as visits across programs such as physical therapy, migraine care, and GI care. The team aims to make visits easy to find, book, prepare for, and follow up on, whether they happen by video or in person. Providers should also be able to act on visits within their tools, including referrals, labs, and prescriptions. Structured visit records inform follow-up bookings and AI experiences that help members act on their care. As a Senior Software Engineer on Visits, you will own projects across this experience, from technical design through launch, as visit volume grows. Work may focus on mobile, web, or backend services; there is central work in each area, and expertise in all three is not expected. The role involves 0-to-1 work at a startup pace, supported by the resources and data of a market leader.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of non-internship, full-time professional software engineering experience.
  • Professional experience with at least one of TypeScript, Go, React Native, or React.
  • Experience leading a production feature or system from technical design through launch, working closely with product and design partners.
  • Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code, in day-to-day engineering work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building 0-to-1 products in a rapid-growth environment and using data and experiments to decide what to build next.
  • Experience shipping production product features powered by LLMs or agentic workflows.
  • Experience building scheduling, booking, or marketplace systems at scale.
  • Experience with clinical data and healthcare integrations, such as FHIR or HL7 data, EHRs, claims, labs, or pharmacies.
  • Familiarity with the core stack: React Native, React, TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, GraphQL, Go, gRPC, Postgres, Temporal, Kafka, Docker, and AWS.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance technology, or other high-compliance industries, including HIPAA or SOC 2.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product, design, and clinical teams to turn loosely defined goals into sequenced plans that several engineers can build against, and ship projects at a high, steady pace.
  • Extend the scheduling platform to support more specialties, more providers, and real-time booking with outside provider networks while maintaining booking accuracy as volume grows.
  • Build encounters, visit history, and after-visit summaries for members, providers, and AI experiences.
  • Launch specialties such as migraine and GI care on shared visit infrastructure so future specialties can be added primarily through configuration.
  • Define SLOs for owned systems, roll out launches and migrations safely, lead incident response through root-cause fixes, and protect member health data in designs and code reviews.
  • Write design documents for key decisions, provide high-signal code reviews, and mentor earlier-career engineers.
  • Use AI tools to increase personal output and help teammates do the same.
