Staff Software Engineer, Visits

Hinge Health•San Francisco, CA
•$192,000 - $264,000

About The Position

Hinge Health uses software, including AI, to deliver care for joint and muscle health, and has expanded into pelvic health, migraine, and digestive health. The Visits team owns scheduling across Hinge Health and the visit experience in the member app and care-team tools, including HingeSelect and visits across the company's programs. As a Staff Software Engineer on Visits, you will lead the technical direction for the visit experience, setting architecture that other teams can build on while also delivering the most challenging work. The role may focus on mobile, web, or backend services; expertise in all three is not expected. You will help build a scalable platform for booking visits, supporting providers and care teams, and maintaining structured visit records that inform follow-up care and AI experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 8 years of non-internship, full-time professional software engineering experience.
  • Professional experience with at least one of TypeScript, Go, React Native, or React.
  • Experience serving as technical lead for a project spanning multiple engineers or teams, from technical design through launch, in close partnership with product and design.
  • Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code, in day-to-day engineering work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams in a 0-to-1 or rapid-growth environment.
  • Experience shipping production product features powered by LLMs or agentic workflows.
  • Experience building scheduling, booking, or marketplace systems at scale.
  • Experience with clinical data and healthcare integrations, such as FHIR or HL7 data, EHRs, claims, labs, or pharmacies.
  • Deep familiarity with React Native, React, TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, GraphQL, Go, gRPC, Postgres, Temporal, Kafka, Docker, and AWS.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance technology, or other high-compliance industries, including HIPAA or SOC 2.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product, design, clinical, and operations leaders to shape a multi-quarter roadmap and lead cross-team initiatives from ambiguity through launch.
  • Own the architecture of the scheduling platform as it supports more specialties and providers, real-time booking with external provider networks, and substantially higher volume.
  • Design visit encounters as a trusted source of information about what happened, what was addressed, and what comes next for member and care-team tools, scheduling, programs, billing, and AI experiences.
  • Design the visit platform so new specialties can be added primarily through configuration, and own integration contracts with programs, member records, and care-team workflows.
  • Own service reliability, prevent recurring classes of failures, lead risky migrations away from third-party systems, and maintain strong security and privacy for member health data.
  • Write critical design documents, lead design reviews, establish patterns adopted beyond the team, use AI throughout software development, coach senior engineers into technical leadership, and help raise the hiring bar.
  • Ship the hardest technical components while coordinating parallel workstreams and keeping delivery predictable.
