About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex user needs into actionable solutions, promote engineering best practices, and continuously improve processes. This position requires strong technical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, maintainable software aligned with business objectives. The Global Security & Investigations Technology team develops intelligent, scalable platforms that empower Walmart to anticipate, prevent, and respond to security and operational risks. Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Proficiency in debugging, remedial action, and software security best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Effective mentorship and collaboration skills to foster technical growth and cross-team alignment.
  • Data-driven decision-making capabilities to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining efforts to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Lead system design reviews to ensure quality, feasibility, and architectural alignment.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using modern programming languages.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
  • Apply data-driven practices to define success metrics and optimize development processes.
  • Continuously improve code quality through review processes and stay current with industry trends.
