About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer (Android) on the Digital Products team, you will provide technical leadership for the architecture, development, and evolution of our Android platform, helping shape the future of the connected vehicle experience. You will drive the design and delivery of scalable, high-quality Android applications and services across key customer-facing products, including vehicle connectivity, mapping and navigation, EV charging experiences, vehicle purchasing journeys, and other strategic digital initiatives. In this role, you will partner closely with engineering leadership, product management, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to define and execute the Android engineering strategy. You will influence technical direction across multiple teams, establish best practices, and ensure architectural consistency, performance, reliability, and maintainability across the Android ecosystem. As a technical leader, you will lead large-scale, complex initiatives from concept through delivery, balancing near-term business needs with long-term platform investments. You will drive technical decision-making, identify and mitigate risks, and champion engineering excellence through code quality, operational rigor, and continuous improvement. You will also play a key role in developing engineering talent by mentoring senior and junior engineers, providing technical guidance, fostering collaboration, and elevating the overall effectiveness of the Android organization. Drive the technical architecture and implementation of mobile platform and solutions from the ground up, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and performant. Grow the knowledge of the team, sharing through pair programming, code reviews, presentations, example code, and documentation. Implement programming best practices, deployment processes and monitoring for mobile platforms. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in mobile development, advocating for the adoption of new tools and techniques as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering shipping customer facing applications on Android.
  • Proficiency in Android application development using languages like Kotlin or Java.
  • Solid understanding of mobile platform architecture, UI/UX design principles and frameworks, GraphQL, mobile security and performance optimization techniques.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines and mobile release process.
  • Experience as a technical lead for large projects (6+ months in length), including defining the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience operating in start-up settings, launching 0 to 1 product, and driving graduation to highly customized applications.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Passion for mobile technology and a commitment to delivering exceptional user experiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building systems in the automotive industry.
  • Experience with mobile app testing, experimentation frameworks and automation frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and services, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with mobile apps that connect to an IOT device
