About The Position

Walmart Global Tech is looking to hire a Staff, Software Engineer (Android) for their Marketplace Engineering team. This role involves building industry-defining seller and customer experiences to grow the marketplace platform. The position offers the opportunity to significantly impact Walmart's customers and sellers by providing Seller Mobile Apps and capabilities to associates supporting all segments of Walmart. The Marketplace team at Walmart Global Tech is focused on creating novel features that simplify sellers' lives by connecting digital and physical shopping experiences. This rapidly expanding team is at the forefront of retail innovation, working with a diverse group of iOS, Android, and services developers. The team maintains a startup feel within a Fortune 1 company, with a product-focused approach where engineers are involved in all aspects of product development, from requirements and design to implementation and testing. The work involves adapting new technologies and tackling challenges in security, geolocation, payments, scalability, and architecture. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this role.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in object-oriented design and software development.
  • 10+ years’ experience with Pure native development.
  • 6+ years’ experience on Kotlin for Android developer.
  • 3+ years’ experience on WebView or Hybrid Mobile application development.
  • Understanding of MVVM and clean architecture.
  • Shipped one or more Android applications which are still available in the Playstore.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Technical lead for team.
  • Familiarity and comfort with compilers, linkers, build systems, and project configuration.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement sophisticated features in Walmart Android applications.
  • Work closely with product and design teams to optimize the experience for the Android platform.
  • Analyze and optimize Android applications.
  • Experiment with new technologies and features and build quick prototypes.
  • Participate in managing code & configurations for multiple environments, release management process, creating and maintaining environment configuration and controls, code integrity and work closely with the platform team.
  • Analyze business requirements, storyboards, and similar artifacts of the scrum process, work in an agile development environment with a quick turnaround time and iterative builds.
  • Lead the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high-level design.
  • Lead the work of other small groups of three to five engineers.
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues.
  • Ensure inclusion of business vision and industry trends to enable results that drive business.
  • Problem-solve and troubleshoot design and development issues and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with technical and non-technical cross-functional teams.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Enforce quality code and follow SOLID principles.
  • Utilize industry research to improve Walmart's technology environment.
