About The Position

Texas Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a highly qualified Staff Scientist III with expertise in genomics and metagenomics to support a diverse portfolio of biomedical research studies spanning infectious diseases, aging, and other areas of human health. The Staff Scientist III will work closely with Institutional Cores, scientists, and research staff across the Institute to provide advanced genomics and metagenomics expertise and consultation. This position will contribute to study design, development of genomic and metagenomic analysis plans, data analysis and interpretation, and preparation of technical and scientific reports. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced scientist to collaborate across multidisciplinary research programs and contribute to high-impact biomedical research at Texas Biomed.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Parasitology, Molecular Biology, or a related life science discipline.
  • Extensive experience in genomics and/or metagenomics supporting biomedical research.
  • At least eight years of related experience in genomics/metagenomics study planning, data analysis, interpretation, and scientific or technical report writing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex research data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present scientific information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a high-impact research environment.
  • The ability to work independently, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and meet project timelines.
  • A demonstrated ability to translate complex genomic and metagenomic data into clear, actionable scientific conclusions.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the stated degree requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of experimental/study design and prepare formal plans for genomic/metagenomic analysis and data interpretation as well as writing technical and scientific reports.
  • Analyze primary data and conduct downstream assessments, as appropriate.
  • Present/review data reports with research staff.
  • Develop charts, tables and graphs to display results; may assist in writing research papers for publication.
  • Assist in the design of new projects and the development of grant proposals.
  • May contribute to preparation of conference papers and peer reviewed journal articles.
  • Maintain technical competency and proficiency in relevant research areas through training, literature, review, and interaction with scientific colleagues at technical meetings and/or conferences.
