About The Position

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center is seeking a temporary Staff Psychiatrist for their Consult Liaison/EmPATH (Crisis Stabilization) Unit. This role involves providing psychiatric consultation to the Emergency Department (ED), Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), and general Inpatient Units (IPU) for patients with concurrent behavioral health needs. The EmPATH unit is a 6-chair unit located adjacent to the ED, staffed 24/7 by caregivers trained to treat psychiatric emergencies, and designed with calming elements like soothing music and artwork. Patients are medically cleared before entering the EmPATH unit. The position utilizes EMR systems EPIC and SmartCare. The psychiatrist will cover 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with an average of 4-6 consults per shift. This is a full-time, temporary position.

Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Valid California medical license.
Experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry or crisis stabilization.
Proficiency in EMR systems, specifically EPIC and SmartCare.
Ability to work Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts.

Familiarity with the San Diego healthcare landscape.

Responsibilities

Provide psychiatric consultation to the ED, SNF, and general IPU patients with concurrent behavioral health needs.
Work within the 6-chair EmPATH unit, located adjacent to the ED.
Manage an average of 4-6 consults per shift.
Collaborate with 24/7 staffing of caregivers specifically trained to treat psychiatric emergencies.
