About The Position

Serves as the charge pharmacist for a specific pharmacy location, holding site-specific licensing (DEA, BOP, etc.) if applicable. This individual possesses a deep understanding of site-specific processes and operations, acting as the primary contact for staff and leadership. Responsibilities include ensuring the pharmacy space meets regulatory requirements, leading relevant committees, and implementing workflows. This role encompasses all aspects of the Staff Pharmacist 2 position, with additional involvement in teaching, educational, supervisory, and quality improvement activities. Key duties involve verifying medication orders, checking prepared medications, overseeing dispensing, and conducting clinical patient reviews for safety and accuracy. The pharmacist provides patient-centered, evidence-based medication services and serves as a drug information resource for patients, families, healthcare professionals, and students. They screen for various drug interactions and participate in hospital/departmental committees. This position coordinates all pharmaceutical needs for patients at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and acts as a representative of their site through educational and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Registered Pharmacist.
  • 1 year of relevant experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the pharmacy space meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Actively engages in and leads appropriate hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to site.
  • Assists with creation and implementation of workflows related to their site.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the Staff Pharmacist 2 role.
  • Further involvement in teaching, educational, supervisory, and quality improvement activities within operational practice area.
  • Responsible for verifying new medication orders.
  • Checking prepared medications.
  • Overseeing dispensing from the pharmacy.
  • Completing clinical patient review for safety and accuracy.
  • Provides safe, efficient, high quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based medication services to all patients.
  • Acts as a resource and provides answers to drug information questions for patients and family members, pharmacists, nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, medical students, undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students, and other associated hospital personnel.
  • Screens for drug-drug, drug-herb/dietary supplement, drug allergy, drug-food, drug-disease state, and drug-laboratory interactions.
  • Engages in appropriate hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to practice area.
  • Functions to coordinate all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
  • Acts as representative of their site through involvement in teaching, educational, supervisory, and quality improvement activities.
  • Medication order approval and distribution.
  • Assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency, and duration of therapy.
  • Clinical profile review to assess safety and accuracy of medication services.
  • Patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergies and appropriate regimens.
  • Coordination of patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses.
  • Overseeing technicians.
  • Undergraduate and graduate student teaching.
  • Providing educational programs for hospital staff.
