Staff Full-Stack Engineer

About The Position

As a Staff Engineer at Capital One, you will join a community of technical experts defining the future of banking in the cloud. You will work with developers, machine learning experts, product managers, and people leaders to devise practical, reusable solutions to complex problems and improve business outcomes through strong technology solutions. Staff Engineers lead through technical contribution, promote engineering excellence and inclusive collaboration, mentor and recruit engineers, and share expertise through clear communications, code samples, blog posts, and other materials. While specializing in a subject area, you are expected to contribute across the organization. This role leads architecture for Capital One’s growing Business Travel products, supporting expansion of the feature set, including international expansion. The work spans multiple areas, including multi-tenant inventory management for flights, hotels, and cars; expense management; and partner integration. You will balance hands-on technical contribution and innovation with mentoring and developing others, while leading cross-divisional projects and promoting technology best practices.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
At least 7 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture.
At least 7 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns.
At least 7 years of experience in cloud computing, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
At least 7 years of experience in data architecture.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture.
10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns.
10+ years of experience with web technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, and SPA frameworks.
Experience designing and building distributed HPC and ML systems.
10+ years of experience in cloud computing, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
10+ years of experience in data architecture.
10+ years of professional coding experience in commonly used languages such as Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
8+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
10+ years of professional experience across the full system development lifecycle, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
8+ years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
10+ years of experience with networking protocols and integration with third-party distributed systems.
5+ years of experience mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
2+ years of experience leading cross-domain architectural reviews and establishing coding and design standards.
Expertise in the strategic application of agentic AI coding tools to solve systemic development challenges.

Lead cross-divisional projects that promote technological best practices and enhancements.
Lead architecture for Business Travel products as they grow and expand their features and international reach.
