About The Position

As an Entry Level Staff Engineer, you will join our Waterfront and Coastal Team in our Portsmouth NH or Providence, RI office, where you’ll play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast. Working with industry experts, you’ll tackle complex challenges that strengthen community resilience and advance environmental sustainability. Our Waterfront and Coastal group specializes in providing planning and engineering services to address the challenges of coastal and waterfront storm damage on infrastructure. With climate change having a significant impact on numerous communities, we focus on preventative measures to ensure resilience. Our team of nearly 120 Land Use & Transportation professionals across our 17 regional offices is dedicated to supporting our coastal resiliency projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Passed your FE Exam and obtained your EIT certification, or planning to by June 2026
  • Relevant experience through internships in surveying, engineering, permitting, or construction observation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn, intellectually curious, self-motivated, and excellent organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD, or RISA
  • Understanding of structural and geotechnical engineering principles

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role working on waterfront facility site planning and design, problem-solving, and permitting assignments, including ports, piers, seawalls, and shoreline protection
  • Draft figures, details, and plans
  • Complete field work in support of design and construction projects, including geotechnical evaluations
  • Prepare design calculations and opinions of probable construction cost
  • Prepare technical specifications, memorandum, reports, and project correspondence
  • Understand design standards and regulatory requirements
  • Observe construction progress, review shop drawings and submittals, and create record plans
