Waterfront Coordinator (Summer 2027)

About The Position

YMCA Camp Greenville is seeking a cause-driven leader to serve as Waterfront Coordinator at its overnight camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The coordinator leads the waterfront and its activities, takes ownership of operating it efficiently, and guides lifeguards in creating a safe and enjoyable environment. The role supports the camp’s mission of strengthening communities and its values of welcoming, genuineness, hope, nurturing, and determination.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years old by June 2027 (the posting says “June 20227”).
Hold a current deep-water lifeguard certification, or have held one within the last two years and be willing to recertify; certification must be through the American Red Cross.
Hold CPR/First Aid certification as part of the lifeguard certification.
Have experience managing lifeguards or a waterfront setting.

Responsibilities

Maintain the safety of campers and staff at the waterfront.
Follow all provided operating procedures and standards.
Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and enjoyable waterfront program.
Train staff, maintain equipment, and manage supervision and safety.
Coordinate bi-weekly in-service training for lifeguards and key staff, as well as camper waterfront check-in.
Support cabin leader staff when not in the program area and occasionally fill in for cabin leaders.
Work with participants of all backgrounds.
Serve as a role model by upholding camp values and acting with integrity, creativity, and safety in mind.
Support campers’ mental, emotional, and physical health and well-being during their time at camp.
Approach responsibilities in a fun, creative, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
Adhere to policies concerning boundaries with consumers.
Attend and complete required abuse risk management training.
Follow procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
Follow mandated reporting requirements.
Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
