About The Position

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute, residential, and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital provides high quality care to children, adolescents and their families using quality, evidence-based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a 106-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). The Training Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of staff education programs for employees. The Training Coordinator first ensures compliance with regulatory and policy requirements for training. The Training Coordinator partners with the Nurse Educator and departmental leaders to ensure a workforce that is prepared to care for behavioral health patients.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in human services, business administration, or other similar disciplines. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Skilled in the use of technical platforms, such as Learning Management Systems, Microsoft presentation software, and Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Must be certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR trainer or demonstrate the ability to obtain such certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to become certified in facility-based training standards, including Handle with Care, Service Excellence, Verbal De-escalation, and other areas, as required.
  • Significant experience providing effective methods and deliveries of training standards to staff via various techniques and platforms, including in-person, online, and blended learning styles and modalities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of different learning styles and capabilities, and the ability to translate and deliver curriculum, which results in high knowledge retention.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting needs assessments, analyzing results, and making training/development recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to schedule training without disrupting operational activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak publicly with confidence and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Creates annual Staff Education Plan that meets regulatory and policy requirements as well as staff developmental needs. Will work with hospital and departmental leaders to incorporate departmental needs into the plan as well as to ensure implementation of plan.
  • Ensures documentation of training is completed, tracked and filed.
  • Provides regular information to leaders about training completion. Ensuring opportunities are available for staff to complete required scheduled classes (CPR/BLS, Handle with Care, Verbal De-Escalation and other annual requirements).
  • Provides coordination of New Employee Orientation to include scheduling presenters, putting out schedules, ensuring completion of training and HR documentation, and ensuring all staff are competent in using e-learning and Time keeping system. Act as gatekeeper ensuring that no staff work with patients until required training has been completed.
  • Provide direct education for staff. At minimum being able to present CPR/BLS, Handle with Care, Verbal De-Escalation and Service Excellence. May fill in for other presenters when needed.
  • Creates and maintains training space that is positive, welcoming, professional and comfortable to promote learning.
  • Works with leaders to ensure that new employee competency documents are completed fully and are filed in the HR Training Files.
  • Administrator of the E-Learning system. Optimizes use of the system to ensure that requirements are tracked as needed and timely.
  • Maintain employee training files ensuring timely filing, accuracy and completion. Participate in monthly auditing of training files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
