About The Position

Render is seeking a Staff Developer Relations Engineer to grow usage and word of mouth among developers building full-stack and AI applications. The role represents Render at events and within developer and AI communities, while bringing community feedback back to Product and Engineering. You will set the technical direction and quality bar for DevRel, serve as a technical resource for developers and ecosystem partners, and build demos and workshop materials for your talks. When materials merit ongoing maintenance, DX Engineering may turn them into examples or templates. The position is remote within the US, with the option to work from Render’s San Francisco headquarters. Regular travel for conferences and events is expected. The role is generally not eligible for new visa sponsorship; existing visa transfers may be sponsored at Render’s discretion and require business authorization.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in developer relations, solutions engineering, or software engineering, including at least 3 years in a developer-facing role at a developer tools, cloud, or infrastructure company.
  • A track record of speaking at recognized developer conferences and designing and running workshops.
  • Experience setting direction for a developer relations program, choosing investment areas, measuring results, and adjusting course.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI agents, including tool calling, MCP servers, LLM APIs, and agent frameworks; ability to build an agent application live and explain production needs such as long-running tasks, sandboxed code execution, and retries.
  • Engineering depth to deploy a multi-service application, read logs, trace failed deployments, and identify root causes in front of an audience.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, including containers and Docker, networking basics, CI/CD, environment configuration, and infrastructure as code.
  • Daily use of coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, and familiarity with developments in the agent ecosystem.
  • Examples of developer feedback that resulted in product changes, including what was heard, the case made, and what shipped.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication, including the ability to explain complex systems clearly to an engineering audience.

Nice To Haves

  • Existing relationships in AI framework, agent tooling, or open-source communities.
  • An existing developer audience through talks, livestreams, a newsletter, or social media.
  • Experience starting or growing in-person developer meetups.
  • Experience with durable workflows, background job systems, or sandboxed code execution.
  • Prior use of Render, professionally or on side projects.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Render at conferences, meetups, hackathons, podcasts, and livestreams with talks and live demos about building and running AI agents and full-stack applications.
  • Design and run hands-on workshops and hackathons, including the curriculum and technical setup.
  • Set DevRel’s technical direction by selecting communities, ecosystems, and events for investment and defining quality standards for talks, workshops, and demos.
  • Serve as the technical counterpart for ecosystem partners, including AI frameworks, agent tooling, and open-source projects; coordinate joint workshops, co-hosted events, and potential integrations.
  • Participate in technical communities on GitHub, X, Discord, Reddit, and Hacker News by answering questions, debugging deployments, and engaging where Render can contribute credibly.
  • Run the developer feedback loop by turning field observations into prioritized input for Product and Engineering and following through on resulting changes.
  • Support high-potential developers and startups through technical deep dives and architecture reviews, helping them become Render advocates in their communities.
  • Raise the DevRel team’s quality through talk and demo reviews and through personal contributions.
  • Track impact through event and workshop activation, community engagement, partner-driven adoption, and product changes driven by feedback.
