Staff AI Engineer, Developer Relations Engineering

Crusoe•Sunnyvale, CA
•$180,000 - $220,000

About The Position

Crusoe is hiring a Staff AI Engineer for its Developer Relations Engineering team. This hands-on engineering role builds agentic AI systems and helps other developers understand how to use them. The engineer will create reference agents, open-source integrations, and sample applications on Crusoe Cloud and Crusoe Managed Inference, spending most of their time building and sharing what they build. The role leads technical content creation, community engagement, and developer outreach across AI infrastructure and managed services workloads. It includes producing documentation, tutorials, white papers, sample applications, and video guides, while partnering with Product, Engineering, Research, and GTM/Solutions Engineering teams and contributing across the open-source agent ecosystem.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer, ML engineer, applied AI engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or in a similar hands-on engineering role.
  • Strong Python skills.
  • Ability to earn credibility with both AI infrastructure engineers and ML/AI engineers.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM applications and agents with tool calling, MCP, retrieval, memory, and evaluation, using one or more agent frameworks.
  • Well-formed opinions about what works and what breaks in production for agentic AI.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, or managed AI solutions, and foundational understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts.
  • Working knowledge of model serving, including OpenAI-compatible APIs, open-weight models, and serving engines such as vLLM or SGLang, with the ability to explain cost and latency tradeoffs.
  • Public evidence of sharing technical work through GitHub repositories, open-source contributions, blog posts, videos, talks, or an active technical social presence; applicants should include links.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation, white papers, video explainers, and presentation decks.
  • Ability to work across teams, set priorities independently, and deliver in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintainer or significant contributor to an open-source AI, agent, or inference project.
  • Experience producing technical video content such as YouTube tutorials, livestreams, or screencasts.
  • Experience fine-tuning or post-training open-weight models using SFT, RL, or LoRA.
  • An existing technical audience that trusts your views on models, agents, and tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and ship end-to-end reference agents and starter kits on Crusoe covering tool use, MCP, multi-agent orchestration, RAG, structured outputs, memory, and evaluations.
  • Own and maintain code examples, tutorials, and documentation that help developers progress from their first API call to a working agent.
  • Own Crusoe's developer-facing GitHub presence, including examples, cookbooks, and integrations.
  • Contribute upstream to agent frameworks, inference engines, and developer tooling so they work well with Crusoe.
  • Create technical content, including deep-dive blog posts, notebooks, YouTube videos, livestreams, and short technical clips.
  • Share work publicly, answer technical questions, review community projects, and build credibility in the agent and open-source community.
  • Partner with GTM/Solutions Engineering to identify recurring customer patterns and turn them into open reference architectures for developer segments such as Physical AI, robotics, and simulation.
  • Work with Product, Engineering, and Research to test features and models before launch, prepare samples and documentation for launch day, and communicate developer friction as product feedback through resolution or explicit deprioritization.
  • Give technical talks, live demos, and hands-on labs at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and workshops.

  • Paid time off, paid holidays, and leave of absence programs.
