Staff Data Analyst (Contract)

SoFi•San Francisco, CA
•$94 - $130

About The Position

The CTO Business Operations team enables SoFi’s Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) organization to execute with operational rigor, financial discipline, and organizational clarity. The team builds and runs people-data pipelines, internal organizational tools, and operating cadences that turn workforce and resource data into operational systems for CTO and EPD leadership. The Staff Data Analyst owns the data engineering, transformations, and reporting systems behind EPD headcount, organizational mapping, and organization-wide resource reporting for approximately 2,000 or more people across Technology and Product. The role combines strong data engineering with business operations, including automating Workday people-data pipelines, evolving resource reporting toward live API integration and self-service leader workflows, managing operating calendars, and supporting resource planning and software capitalization.

Requirements

  • 4 to 7+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, technical business operations, or data analysis; targeting Staff level or a strong Senior level with demonstrated technical depth.
  • Strong data engineering foundations, including ability to ingest, clean, transform, and reconcile messy, multi-source datasets using SQL, Python (or Apps Script/TypeScript), and advanced Google Sheets or Excel.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday people data, custom reports, organizational hierarchies, and HRIS-to-planning reconciliations, with ability to work toward API-driven integrations.
  • Fluency with modern AI coding and data tools such as Cursor, Claude, Copilot, or LLM workflows, and sound judgment in assessing output accuracy.
  • Track record of building and maintaining reliable internal tools, automated workflows, or operational dashboards for technical and executive stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, operational rigor, and ownership, including proactively identifying and resolving reconciliation gaps.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, Economics, or equivalent practical technical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or HRIS/People Data Systems Engineer, with interest in developing business and executive operations acumen.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Jira, and connecting project or engineering telemetry with workforce and resource data.
  • Experience building lightweight web interfaces, Apps Script automations, or interactive internal tools.
  • Familiarity with engineering organizational structures such as squads and pillars, contingent workforce operations, or software development capitalization.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve internal organizational and squad resource reporting for approximately 2,000 or more people across Engineering, Product, and Design, ensuring reliable biweekly refreshes and high data integrity.
  • Partner on the evolution of resource reporting tools, replacing manual spreadsheet exchanges with automated Workday API ingestion and interactive drag-and-drop seat management for engineering leaders.
  • Build and maintain automated people-data pipelines, Workday report transformations, and cross-system reconciliations across Workday, Talent Acquisition, FP&A, and EPD rosters.
  • Maintain accurate organizational mapping across divisions, groups, and squads, tracking hiring progress, backfills, contingent workers, team movements, and capacity impacts.
  • Build clean, repeatable data models, scripts, and validation checks from messy, multi-source operational datasets to reduce manual spreadsheet work.
  • Use AI coding and analysis tools, SQL, Python or equivalent scripting, and Google Sheets to prototype tools, automate recurring reporting, and audit data quality.
  • Ensure data governance, schema consistency, and clear documentation across CTO Business Operations datasets and tools.
  • Manage and consolidate EPD operating calendars, leadership forum rhythms, and recurring readiness milestones across Technology and Product.
  • Support quarterly and annual headcount, contingent-worker, and resource planning cycles with baseline data, scenario models, and variance analysis.
  • Support quarterly software development capitalization and labor allocation with Finance, Accounting, and engineering leaders.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses of organizational structure, squad composition, and workforce deployment to inform CTO leadership decisions.
  • Partner with CTO Business Operations, EPD leaders, People Partners, HRIS, Talent Acquisition, and Strategic Finance to align staffing, organizational structure, and capacity data.
  • Translate engineering and workforce inputs into structured metrics, clear narratives, and actionable recommendations.
  • Support executive-level summaries, dashboards, and operating materials for CTO leadership.
