About The Position

The Staff Care Technician II - Reception and Treatment Center role at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) involves providing essential personal hygiene and general nursing care to inmates in a skilled nursing facility. This position requires direct patient interaction, including assisting with daily living activities, administering medication, maintaining a clean living environment, and accurately documenting patient care. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Completed a state approved 76-hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program.
  • Listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test.
  • Must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Incumbents must complete a state approved medication aide course and successfully pass a written and clinical competency exam administered by the State of Nebraska and be placed on the State of Nebraska Medication Aide Registry as a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal hygiene care for inmates in the skilled nursing facility, including but not limited to, toileting, bathing, dressing, shampooing, shaving, hair combing or brushing, and tooth brushing.
  • Feeds or assists inmates feeding themselves.
  • Responds to basic care needs and requests.
  • Provides general nursing care of inmates, such as applying clean and dry dressings, performing decubitus care, and providing cold or warm applications.
  • Lifts or transfers inmate patients from one position to another manually or with mechanical lifts.
  • Turns and repositions patients to prevent wounds from developing.
  • Transports via wheelchair, provides help walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed.
  • Administers medication and observes inmates for adverse medication reactions.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary living environment by removing soiled and wet bedding, making beds, laundering clothing, and locking up cleaning supplies.
  • Completes paperwork regarding the charting of care and treatment such as recording vital signs, appetite observations, flow sheets, restraint sheets and transfers.
  • Assists in evaluating needs and makes recommendations to supervisors regarding the planning of individual care and re-motivation of inmates.
  • Attends in-service training classes and participates in on-the-job training programs to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for continued employment.
