Staff Application Engineer – High-Speed Interfaces & System Validation
About The Position
Renesas is seeking an experienced Staff Application Engineer to develop system-level solutions using USB protocols. The role focuses on validating, implementing, and optimizing memory systems, with particular attention to USB protocols and power efficiency. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to help ensure system quality, reliability, performance, and compliance with specifications and customer requirements. The position includes bench validation of memory modules and controllers, performance and power analysis, development of automation software and simulation tools, and technical support for customers during product development and integration. The engineer will also prepare technical documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders. The expected annual pay range is $145,000–$185,000, with eligibility for bonus opportunities. Final offer amounts depend on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset. Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in power management, USB protocol compliance testing, memory system design, or related fields.
- Hands-on experience with bench validation of analog, digital, and power management devices.
- Strong knowledge of USB physical-layer measurements and electrical compliance testing, including high-speed tests, jitter, eye diagram analysis, EOP width, mask testing, and ringing.
- Strong understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuits, such as amplifiers, temperature sensors, ADCs, DACs, voltage regulators, and related power components.
- Automation experience using LabVIEW, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Experience supporting customers with technical design and resolving application-level issues.
- Experience developing customer reports, application notes, datasheets, and other technical collateral.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams and customers.
Nice To Haves
- Three or more years focused on DDR5 or similar high-speed memory technologies.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with DDR JEDEC standards and protocols.
Responsibilities
- Validate new memory module and controller products for compliance with industry standards and customer requirements, including conducting bench measurements to collect data and verify functionality.
- Analyze memory modules to assess performance and develop strategies to improve system power efficiency without compromising performance.
- Create and maintain bench automation software for data collection, along with simulation models and tools for chip-, board-, and system-level analysis.
- Provide technical support during product development and integration, working directly with customers to resolve technical issues and complex power-related challenges.
- Collaborate with design, product, test, packaging, and other teams to ensure solutions meet performance and specification requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, datasheets, power analysis reports, validation reports, and test plans.
