Principal System Validation Engineer

Marvell Technology•Santa Clara, CA
•$150,680 - $225,700

About The Position

Marvell is seeking a System Validation Engineer for its Platform Engineering team, supporting board, switch, and optics development for next-generation platform solutions. The role leads validation across complex cross-functional programs serving AI, wired and wireless communications, and critical infrastructure markets. It is responsible for developing and executing system- and rack-level validation plans across electrical, thermal, functional, and performance domains to ensure components operate reliably as integrated platform solutions. The engineer partners with hardware design, signal and power integrity, firmware, and systems engineering teams to turn platform requirements into validation methods and test coverage. The position provides validation expertise, bring-up support, and lab-based characterization, and engages with engineering teams and customers to meet performance, quality, and schedule objectives. It also supports design manufacturability and production readiness with ODMs, contract manufacturers, and suppliers; helps customers with validation data and technical escalations; and maintains validation records and reports throughout the system lifecycle. The expected base pay range is $150,680–$225,700 per annum. The role is eligible for Marvell bonus and equity plans, including a new-hire equity grant and annual equity refreshers. The position may require access to export-controlled technology or software; applicants must be eligible to access export-controlled information under applicable law, and some applicants may be subject to an export license review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and 10–15 years of related professional experience; alternatively, a master's degree and/or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5–10 years of experience.
  • Experience with microprocessor, interconnect, memory, networking, and storage architectures relevant to platform-level system validation.
  • Strong understanding of system- and rack-level architecture, including scale-up and scale-out fabric design, interconnect, and data center power and thermal constraints.
  • Experience validating switch, board, and optics components integrated into rack-scale solutions and reference platforms.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces, including Ethernet, PCIe, and other advanced interconnect technologies.
  • Ability to define system validation requirements and translate platform architecture into test plans and design tradeoffs.
  • Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python or C for test automation, data analysis, and validation tooling.
  • Hands-on experience with system-level validation methodologies, including electrical, thermal, functional, and performance characterization.
  • Experience collaborating with ODMs, contract manufacturers, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure design manufacturability and integration readiness.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work successfully across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system- and rack-level validation planning for platform solutions spanning boards, switches, and optics.
  • Define validation requirements and test methodologies, translating platform architecture and customer needs into comprehensive test coverage.
  • Drive electrical, thermal, functional, and performance validation across switch systems, boards, and rack-scale infrastructure.
  • Own validation tradeoff decisions across hardware, software, mechanical, thermal, and operational domains.
  • Collaborate with hardware design, signal and power integrity, firmware, and systems engineering teams to align validation coverage with system-level design intent.
  • Develop and execute board-, system-, and rack-level validation plans and test procedures.
  • Partner with ODMs, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to ensure validation processes support manufacturability and production readiness.
  • Support hyperscale, cloud, and enterprise customer engagements with validation data, design reviews, and technical escalations.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, characterization reports, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Identify validation and integration risks across the platform stack, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate issues to drive resolution.
  • Define validation scope, requirements, and risk assessments to guide testing and reduce security, data integrity, and operational risks.
  • Qualify systems through installation, operational, and performance testing (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Maintain requirements traceability, audit trails, and change/deviation records throughout the system lifecycle, and produce final validation reports.

Benefits

  • Bonus and equity plans, including a new-hire equity grant and annual equity refreshers.
  • Employee stock purchase plan with a two-year look back.
  • Family support programs.
  • Mental health resources.
  • Recognition and service awards.
