Staff Antenna Design Engineer

ŌURA•San Francisco, CA
•$198,000 - $233,000

About The Position

ŌURA is seeking an Antenna Design Engineer to join its hardware team in San Francisco and contribute to future product development. The role focuses on creating high-performing wearable products by designing, simulating, optimizing, prototyping, and validating antennas for low-power wearable devices, including multi-band and multi-system solutions. The engineer will work with mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to integrate antennas into highly constrained form factors, troubleshoot performance issues, and help maintain antenna performance through production. The position also involves collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing partners, documenting designs and results, and keeping up with emerging miniature-antenna technologies. Travel to Oulu, Finland, and other prototype-build locations in Europe and Asia is approximately 5–20% annually.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of experience in antenna and RF design, preferably for compact consumer electronics, wearables, or IoT devices.
  • Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio or Ansys HFSS.
  • Experience with antenna measurement tools such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, radio communication testers, and OTA chambers.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, antenna concepts, matching networks, and PCB layout considerations for miniaturized antennas.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines in a product development program and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with wireless communication industry standards and regulations, such as those from the FCC, ETSI, or ITU.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing antennas for wearable or ultra-compact devices.
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth, BLE, NFC, wireless charging, and other multi-system antenna solutions and RF protocols.
  • Knowledge of RF front-end design, including filters, switches, LNAs, and PAs.
  • Knowledge of SAR compliance and RF regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and optimize antennas for low-power wearable devices, including multi-band and multi-system solutions.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations and validate designs using bench and over-the-air measurements.
  • Build prototypes to evaluate design concepts.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to integrate antennas into highly constrained product form factors.
  • Conduct OTA performance testing and troubleshooting with other engineering teams.
  • Drive root cause analysis and design iteration for antenna performance issues in prototypes and production units.
  • Work with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and Oura manufacturing teams to maintain antenna performance throughout production.
  • Document design processes, results, and performance metrics for internal knowledge sharing and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay current with emerging materials, methods, and technologies in miniature antenna design.
  • Travel to support prototype builds in Europe and Asia, approximately 5–20% of the time annually.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity packages.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, and mental health resources.
  • An Ōura Ring and employee discounts for friends and family.
  • 20 days of paid time off, 13 paid holidays, and 8 days of flexible wellness time off.
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave.
