Staff Antenna Design Engineer

Ōura•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

ŌURA is seeking an Antenna Design Engineer to join its hardware team in San Francisco and contribute to future product development. The role focuses on creating high-performing wearable products by designing, simulating, optimizing, prototyping, and validating antennas for low-power wearable devices, including multiband and multisystem solutions. The engineer will work with mechanical, electrical, firmware, supplier, and manufacturing teams to integrate antennas into constrained form factors and maintain performance through production. The position also involves documentation, regulatory compliance, and keeping current with developments in miniature antenna design. Travel to support prototype builds in Oulu, Finland, and other locations in Europe and Asia is approximately 5–20% annually.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in antenna and RF design, preferably for compact consumer electronics, wearables, or IoT devices.
  • Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio or Ansys HFSS.
  • Experience with antenna measurement tools, such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, radio communication testers, and OTA chambers.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, antenna concepts, matching networks, and PCB layout considerations for miniaturized antennas.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines in a product development program and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with wireless communication industry standards and regulations, such as those from the FCC, ETSI, or ITU.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing antennas for wearable or ultra-compact devices.
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth, BLE, NFC, wireless charging, and other multisystem antenna solutions and RF protocols.
  • Knowledge of RF front-end design, including filters, switches, LNAs, and PAs, in addition to antennas.
  • Knowledge of SAR compliance and RF regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and optimize antennas for low-power wearable devices, including multiband and multisystem solutions.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations and validate designs using bench and over-the-air measurements.
  • Build prototypes to evaluate antenna design concepts.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams to integrate antennas into highly constrained form factors.
  • Conduct over-the-air performance testing and troubleshooting with other engineering teams.
  • Drive root cause analysis and design iteration for antenna performance issues in prototypes and production units.
  • Work with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and Oura manufacturing teams to maintain antenna performance throughout production.
  • Document design processes, results, and performance metrics for internal knowledge sharing and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay up to date on emerging materials, methods, and technologies in miniature antenna design.
  • Travel to support prototype builds in Europe and Asia, including Oulu, Finland, approximately 5–20% of the time yearly.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity packages.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, and mental health resources.
  • An Ōura Ring and employee discounts for friends and family.
  • 20 days of paid time off, 13 paid holidays, and 8 days of flexible wellness time off.
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave.
