About The Position

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care at Vancouver Acute is searching for a full-time Anesthesiologist to join their team. This department is one of the largest in Canada, providing comprehensive anesthesia care at Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Hospital. The role involves all aspects of adult anesthesia sub-specialty care, including perioperative medicine, intraoperative anesthesia care, critical care, and pain management within an academic and quaternary care setting. Vancouver Acute serves as British Columbia’s provincial referral center for numerous surgical programs, including neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, spine surgery, transplant surgery, complex oncology surgery, complex joint reconstruction, and robotic surgery. Vancouver General Hospital is also a level 1 trauma centre. The position is initially a locum role with the potential for a permanent staff position after 9-12 months. The department is actively involved in Quality Improvement, Research, and Education for medical students, residents, and sub-specialty fellows.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Eligibility for licensure with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Completed applicable sub-specialty fellowship training.
  • Current clinical expertise in a tertiary healthcare setting.
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory.
  • Anaesthesia experience – Mandatory.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Provide all anesthesia care at Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Hospital.
  • Engage in all aspects of adult anesthesia sub-specialty care.
  • Participate in perioperative medicine.
  • Provide intraoperative anesthesia care.
  • Involve in critical care.
  • Contribute to pain management.
  • Be involved in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Research activities.
  • Contribute to the Education of medical students, residents, and sub-specialty fellows.
