About The Position

Resources for Community Development (RCD) is a leading nonprofit developer and owner of affordable housing with over 40 years of experience. RCD's mission is to create and preserve affordable housing for those with the fewest options, aiming to build community and enrich lives. The organization fosters strong, inclusive neighborhoods by addressing health, economic development, education, and housing needs. RCD has developed or preserved over 75 communities, providing affordable housing to over 3,000 low-income households in the Bay Area, and is actively expanding with over 1,000 new units in development or under construction. The Staff Accountant role is integral to RCD's core operations and mission fulfillment, joining a growing team within a company with a strong track record and trajectory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • 1-2 years' accounting experience (preferable in property, affordable housing, or audit)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Prior experience contributing to audits
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Asset Management functions
  • Knowledge of Tax Credit, HUD, Housing Authority
  • Proficient in Yardi, MRI, Nexus (or similar property management/accounting software)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee audits for properties in operation: Review financials, troubleshoot issues with and provide adjusting entries to property management company accountants, prepare audit schedules, and resolve auditor questions.
  • Review draft audits.
  • Support Asset Management on financial reviews of assigned properties in portfolio.
  • Troubleshoot accounting questions, prepare interim journal entries as needed, flag key issues, assist in review and understanding of financial statements.
  • Prepare and reconcile schedules for general ledger accounts.
  • Work with lenders to reconcile loan confirmation discrepancies.
  • Support preparation of quarterly corporate financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries as assigned.
  • GL Account reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparation of consolidated audit schedules.
  • Prepare monthly corporate cash flow.
  • Support the redesign of accounting systems in collaboration with Corporate Controller.
  • Special projects as needed.
