About The Position

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has an opening in the Financial Affairs Department for a Staff Accountant. We have been ranked No. 1 among U.S. engineering colleges by the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Guide for the last 27 consecutive years. As the Staff Accountant you will prepare a variety of regular monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and tax filings, draft external financial reports for third-party publications and membership organizations. You will create ad hoc reports upon request and perform routine internal audit functions and edit checks; reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and prepare adjusted journal entries to the general ledger; analyze and monitor revenue and expense allocations for relevance. You will interpret and follow accounting policy and procedures; recommend adjustments and updates to accounting policy and procedure to the Assistant Controller. Additionally, you will ensure Institute policies and procedures are followed and monitor unclaimed property compliance. You will assist with budget preparation, adjustments, and departmental budget queries; and assist in the preparation of year-end audit schedules and supporting documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Two to three years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance operations.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and analytical ability.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting, database, and data analysis software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Project/process management skills.
