About The Position

Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and analytical Staff Accountant to support its finance department. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the College's financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and computer applications, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to collect and analyze data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of data collection and analysis in a computerized environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Appointment is contingent upon completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparation, review, and analysis of statistical and financial reports for internal (College) or external (Federal, State, etc.) distribution/submission.
  • Responsible for preparing data for the Actuary.
  • Coordinates the collection of data from other departments in preparation for the College’s independent audit.
  • Assists with the collection and processing of Certificate of Residency (COR) forms.
  • Leads the annual Cost of Curriculum Study Report.
  • Assists with processing non-tuition billing.
  • Assists with accounts receivables and follows up on outstanding balances; and turns-over delinquent accounts to collection agency.
  • Responsible for collateral reconciliations.
  • Assists Cashier/Bursar’s Office with responding to student inquiries during peak times and as needed.
  • Assists with bank reconciliations, as needed.
  • Assists with annual calculations for auditors to include vacation accrual and termination benefits.
  • Assists Comptroller in working with the College’s independent auditors to reconcile the annual financial statements to the College’s financial reports.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
