Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Applications are being accepted for an Assistant Director of Athletics on the Non-Teaching Professional staff for the Department of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration, Business Administration, Education, Communications, Counseling, or sports-related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working with media or publications
  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • A deep appreciation for the collegiate athletic experience and its role in a college environment
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Non-traditional work schedule (nights & weekends)
  • A willingness and ability to work outside and handle relevant equipment for such purposes also required
  • Unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years within a sports information/communications role
  • Experience with event/game management

Responsibilities

  • Prepares news releases, feature articles and College campus publications when necessary; pitch information and potential feature stories to local, state and national media.
  • Works with the Director of Athletics on program promotion, public relations and supervision/management of all athletic and recreational facilities.
  • Designs, writes and edits game programs, media guides and other promotional publications for athletics.
  • Works closely with the Communications & Marketing office to ensure quality and control of media.
  • Serves as on-campus host, coordinating media coverage for athletic events and coordinates media events, as appropriate.
  • Represents the Athletic Department at home and away games as warranted in the role of home game administrator.
  • Ensures adherence to all policies and procedures established by the College and Athletic Department.
  • Assures that all student athletes participating on HVCC athletic teams are eligible pursuant to the policies of HVCC and the Rules of Eligibility of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
  • Maintains records and statistical files and utilizes statistical software during athletic events.
  • Trains and supervises student work staff.
  • Works with athletics staff to manage athletics website with current information.
  • Promotes athletes and teams for post-season athletic and academic awards.
  • Assists with athletics academic oversight and support.
  • Acts as key member of the Athletic Department’s risk management team and ability to assume responsibility for risk management.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual budget; reviews, on a regular basis, actual expenditure against the budget, and makes recommendations to the Director of Athletics, as appropriate.
  • Serves as committee search chair for selected assistant coaching searches, ensuring all hiring policies and procedures are met.
  • Willingness to learn and communicate relevant NJCAA Rules to act as a resource for the campus community and student athletes.
  • Assists in overseeing coaches to ensure adherence to individual sports budgets.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
