About The Position

As a Staff Accountant at STRATA Trust Company, a subsidiary of Horizon Bank, you’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and meaningful financial reporting that supports informed decision-making across the organization. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Controller and Senior Accountant, gaining hands-on exposure to a wide range of accounting functions, from month-end close and reconciliations to financial analysis, audits, and regulatory reporting. You’ll also collaborate with teams across the organization, building a strong understanding of STRATA’s operations and trust accounting environment. Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s level accounting degree and 2+ years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties of this position.
  • Knowledge and training in computer systems including QuickBooks, Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Strong reasoning abilities, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to analyze data and recognize inconsistencies and discrepancies and to work with supervisors and management on resolutions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, effective verbal and written communication skills, and excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Solid mathematical background.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated initiative to take on new projects and learn new skills.
  • The ability to successfully work as member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and support general ledger operations.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end close processes and the preparation of financial statements.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and perform account and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare financial analysis and supporting schedules as requested.
  • Support accounts receivable, accounts payable, and expense reimbursement processing.
  • Assist with tax computations, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Monitor and resolve bank-related issues.
  • Support regulatory reporting and data gathering activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including documentation and coordination.
  • Help implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Learn and support core system processes related to financial and trust accounting.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or taken on.
