Sr. Test Engineer

Viavi Solutions•Lenexa, KS

About The Position

The Senior Test Engineer designs, develops, and executes Design Verification Tests (DVT) for RF test equipment used to test avionics systems. The role helps ensure product performance, reliability, and compliance throughout the product development lifecycle, working closely with hardware, software, systems, and manufacturing engineering teams to develop verification strategies and test solutions for complex RF and electronic test equipment. This is a hands-on role involving development of test methods, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, analyzing test results, and driving problems to resolution. The engineer supports verification from prototype through qualification and production-readiness testing, while maintaining test equipment, configurations, procedures, and documentation and following applicable engineering, quality, and documentation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience; the posting does not specify the type of experience in this statement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain test software, scripts, and automation using appropriate programming and test frameworks.
  • Ability to read and understand large electronics schematics.
  • Understanding of RF equipment and measurement test equipment.
  • Exposure to measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, RF signal generators, spectrum analyzers, modulation analyzers, and RF power meters.
  • Must be a U.S. Person within the meaning of ITAR: a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, political asylee, refugee, or temporary resident granted amnesty.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Design Verification Tests (DVT) for RF and electronic test equipment.
  • Translate product requirements and specifications into verification plans, test procedures, and test cases.
  • Develop automated test solutions to improve test coverage, repeatability, efficiency, and data collection.
  • Configure and operate RF and electronic test equipment, including signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Perform RF measurements and characterization, including frequency, power, gain/loss, noise, modulation, and signal integrity as applicable to product requirements.
  • Develop test setups, fixtures, cables, interfaces, and instrumentation configurations for product verification.
  • Analyze test data, identify failures and performance issues, and work with engineering teams to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot complex interactions between hardware, firmware, software, and RF subsystems.
  • Document test results and provide technical reports and recommendations.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input on product testability, verification methods, and requirements.
  • Support verification activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including prototype, qualification, and production-readiness testing.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and achieve verification milestones.
  • Maintain test equipment, test configurations, procedures, and associated documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test processes, automation, coverage, and overall product quality.
  • Follow established engineering, quality, and documentation processes applicable to avionics test equipment.
